This week, I spent three days at How Design Live in Chicago, a conference aimed at the creative industry, with our long-time partner Domtar Paper. Domtar was there to promote their suite of fine papers, share their latest promotions and drive attention to their blog, Blueline (http://www.domtarblueline.com.) Very graciously, Domtar offered Squires & Company a ticket and my boss obliged by allowing me the majority of the week to be inspired by the top tier agencies and designers in our industry discussing what they do and “how” they do it. I met and spent time with some amazing people, learned that even the best designers don’t always succeed, and concluded that great creative is born out of building relationships and establishing trust. I was also on-hand to watch Domtar launch the “Share On Cougar” promotion Squires designed and saw designers and peers react to it for the first time (see Share case study here). Chicago was also an inspiring setting. When I wasn’t working, I walked the city and shot as many images as I could (Chicago FLICKR Album).
How proves that creativity needs to be fed, and I returned full of new ideas and invigorated with new possibilities. I hope to spend this year trying to process and implement the numerous great ideas I absorbed at the conference and further improve our process and creative output.
